Spiritual Gifts Part 117:  The resurrection of Christ is the basis for the believer’s confidence in the future

The Doctrine of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

C.  The Baptism of the Spirit is the ministry of God the Holy Spirit in placing every new believer into permanent union with the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Body the Church.

Good conscience depends on your relationship: you are in union with Christ!

Now we are in union with Christ at the right hand of the Father [current positional truth].

We have a good conscience toward God because we are accepted, not on the basis of who and what we are , but on the basis of who and what Christ is.

If this were eternal salvation, he would have pointed to the cross.

The resurrection of Christ is the basis for the believer’s confidence in the future.

Retroactive positional truth means to be identified with Christ in His death and burial.

Current positional truth is identification with Christ as He is seated at the right hand of God the Father in His resurrection, ascension, and session.

He is pointing to current positional truth.

He is pointing to the fact of our union with the resurrected Christ as the means God uses to answer our need for a clean conscience here.

Noah was already a believer and so were all 8 persons when they stepped into the ark.

This is speaking of temporal deliverance, not eternal salvation.

Their deliverance was physical. Our deliverance is in our soul.

The historical ark is the type, and the antitype [real fulfillment of the picture] is the doctrine of the baptism of the Spirit.

Our soul is delivered from attacks made on it by knowing that we are in union with Christ in His resurrection!

The ark is a type of Christ. Christ is the antitype, the reality. Here the emphasis is on the resurrected Christ seated at the Right Hand of the Father.

We are in union with the resurrected Christ seated at the Right Hand of the Father as a result of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

When we are suffering, one of the things that gets attacked is our good conscience. Our sense of having a clean slate with God gets attacked.

EPH 6:17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

The baptism of the Spirit delivers us when we are facing these judgmental attacks, because we know that Christ has risen from the dead.

ROM 4:25  He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.

Justification is the legal act of God whereby He declares the believer righteous because He has imputed to the believer His (God’s) own perfect righteousness.

The resurrection of Christ is the proof of the justification of the believer, that he has been declared perfectly righteous forever by God.

The spiritual death of Christ on the cross is the basis for our eternal salvation.

We are placed into Christ for safekeeping!!!   Just like Noah was placed into the Ark for safekeeping.

We can deal with these attacks with a clear conscience because we know we are justified, and we know it because of the resurrection of Christ.

ROM 8:1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

2TI 4:18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
