The Activity of the Holy Spirit in the lives of Church Age believers, part 5.

JOH 2:17

His disciples remembered that it was written, "ZEAL FOR YOUR HOUSE WILL CONSUME ME."

“Your sins were not forgiven at the cross”

“There is no spiritual life without rebound”

WE KNOW who is ultimately behind the disturbance. Our ultimate fight is not against flesh and blood…

Does the Bible make our confessing our sins in 1JO 1:9 the determining factor in our being filled by the Spirit in

EPH 5:18 ?

The false teaching that a Christian is incapable of any spiritual life until they confess their sins to God.

The Bible does not say that confessing my sins results in the filling of the Spirit.

1. Does the Bible make our confessing our sins in 1JO 1:9 the determining factor in our being filled by the Spirit in EPH 5:18 ?

2. Does the Bible say that a Church Age believer can ever lose fellowship with God -the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit?

3. Does the Bible say that our sins have been forgiven because of Christ’s death on the cross…or do we have to add confessing our sins to that work in order to be forgiven of our sins?

FILLED BY THE SPIRIT

FELLOWSHIP

FORGIVENESS

1. Does the Bible make our confessing our sins in 1JO 1:9 the determining factor in our being filled by the Spirit in EPH 5:18 ?

“to declare openly by way of speaking out freely, such confession being the effect of deep conviction of facts” [Vine]

To see what the letter of 1 John has to say about the Holy Spirit, and in particular what it says if anything about being filled by the Spirit.

Without the indwelling presence, and subsequent activity and enablement, of the Holy Spirit, there is no unique Christian spiritual life.

1 John does not talk about the filling of the Spirit at all!

There is nothing at all in 1 John that says anything about the activities of the Holy Spirit being conditioned in any way by whether or not we confess ours sins.

If we are going to make the case that 1JO 1:9 is how you are filled by the Spirit, we are not able to make that case from 1Jo.

Believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ.

Love one another.

What is the testimony of the Spirit leading to? The fact that God has given us ETERNAL LIFE. This life is in the Son.

It sure seems from the letter of 1 John that the confession that the Holy Spirit is very interested in having us confess -homologeo - is Christ!

1CO 12:3
Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is accursed"; and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.
