Practical Christianity:

A wise guy calls out the wiseguys

I know where to go to learn how to play the piano, or to master carpentry or plumbing…

… but where do I go to learn how to master the art of daily living??

Can’t anybody help me start to MAKE SENSE OF IT ALL???

JAM 1:5-8

I am just not wise enough yet to know how to handle this stuff.

How do you get wisdom?

What does God say in His word?

How do you get wisdom?

JAM 1:5

Ask God for it.

What is “wisdom”?

chokmah : mastery of the art of living in accordance with God’s expectations.

The knowledge and ability to make the right choices at the opportune time.

Wisdom is mastery of the best ways of doing things to achieve the desired result.

Wisdom is knowing the right thing to do, and then doing it.

Solomon, king of Israel, became the wisest man in the Old Testament by asking God for wisdom.

It is called the book of the Proverbs.

The book of the Proverbs is a “how-to” book. That makes it a book of wisdom.

How to make the right choices and take the right actions in our daily lives.

Solomon was
a wise guy.

He turned his back on God’s wisdom and ended up doing evil in God’s sight.

Proverbs chapter 1 deals with something that plagues us today: violence.

The man of violence.

You can lift his words and place them side by side with today’s headlines and they will RESONATE.

Robert Jones

First, recognize the events and fears of our time in chapter 1 of Proverbs.

Then take his advice!

Proverbs is Jesus Christ speaking with His master workman, wisdom.

Let this wise guy speak to the wiseguys, the dispensers of doom, death and violence.

He will give us the wisdom we need
to garrison our hearts and minds in the face of the evils of our time.

PRO 1:1-33

But they lie in wait for their own blood;
They ambush
their own lives.

So are the ways of everyone who gains by violence;
It takes away the life of its possessors.

MAT 26:52-53

MAT 26:52
Then Jesus said to him, “ Put your sword back into its place;

MAT 26:52
“for all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword”.

PRO 26:27
He who digs a pit will fall into it,
And he who rolls a stone, it will come back on him.

Former Tulsa Gang Member Says Life of Crime Isn’t Worth It

“But he who listens to me shall live securely
And will be at ease from the dread of evil.”
