Practical Christianity:

Blessed are the pure in heart

COL 3:12-17

I lose…..
but WE WIN!
(the Lord with me)

The activity of daily Christian living begins in our heart.

1. Put away the bad old attitudes and behaviors.

2. Have your mind renewed by having the word richly dwell within you.

3. Step forward by putting on the good new heart attitudes and behaviors.

Our task in all this is to respond to the grace of God with faith.

GAL 2:20-21

By grace God provides…and by faith we appropriate what God provides.

The heartbeat of our practical sanctification:

COL 3:9-10

apekduomai - to put off, take off, as in clothing or weapons

EPH 4:20-24

apotithemi - to put away, put out of the way

enduo - to put on, as in clothing, literally or figuratively

Put away the old

Be renewed

Put on the new

Put away the old man (attitudes and behavior, a way of life in Adam)

Be renewed by the Spirit in our mind by letting the word of Christ dwell richly in us

Put on the New Man, Christ (heart attitudes leading to new behavior: new life in Christ)

Put away the old garments and put on the new garments.

We put off the old man when we were crucified with Christ.

And we put him away by no longer doing things - the old man’s destructive behaviors -

- and no longer holding on to the old man’s deadly attitudes in our hearts.

God is training sons and daughters - not programming robots!

EPH 2:10

Right back to the heart of practical Christianity: our relationships in marriage and the family.

COL 3:18-21
