'You can't teach that!'

“You can’t teach that!”

There are two parts to Romans 6, and each begins with a question.

ROM 6:1
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?

ROM 6:15
15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace?

The questions are answered by FACTS that are true about us as believers in Christ.

The first question is dealt with by presenting the FACT of our death with Christ to sin.

The second question is met with the FACT that you have exchanged masters.

Where sin increased, grace overflowed.

“You mean to tell me that no matter how many times you sin you still go to heaven?”

“You can believe this for yourself; but you cannot teach it to the people.”

Are we Christians to remain in a lifestyle dedicated to sin?

“We like rules. And give us the procedure to follow when we break the rules so we can get back in God’s favor”.

If we really are under grace, then what will restrain us?

Rather than fear their sinful desires, they indulge them big time.

Paul takes up these two betrayals of grace in chapter 5 of the letter to the Galatians.

We all sometimes take advantage of grace by doing things we shouldn’t …

…and taking the attitude that God’s grace provision will bail us out.

Is there any area of your life where you keep doing something you know is harmful or destructive …

…with the attitude that you will continue to be bailed out?

We can have the theology right but have the living wrong.

God’s graces are new every morning. His forgiveness IS unlimited.

He is asking us to change our attitude toward taking advantage of His grace.

Sinning and not caring about it is very bad form. It is a very ignorant way for a believer to think.

On that cross, Christ’s death to sin was your death to sin. The old relationship that you had to sin - that’s over.

With Christ I have been crucified, and I no longer live; it is Christ who now lives in me.

Your servitude to sin is over.

Not only has God forgiven you of all your sins.

You are also freed from sin as your master.
