Spiritual Gifts Part 41: The ruler of this world was judged at the cross.

The Doctrine of Spiritual Gifts

Point 2. The Giver of the Gifts: The Person and Work of God the Holy Spirit.

3. Here are the three works that God performs to provide salvation to individuals. [Common Grace, Call of God, Efficacious Grace].

1. Common Grace = the ministry of God the Holy Spirit in making the Gospel clear, understandable and compelling to the unbeliever.

2. The Call of God = the invitation of God the Father to believe in Christ.

3. Efficacious Grace = the work or ministry of the Holy Spirit in making the faith in Jesus Christ of the spiritually dead person effective for eternal salvation.

1. Common Grace
2. The Call of God
3. Efficacious Grace

1. Common Grace = the ministry of God the Holy Spirit in making the Gospel clear, understandable and compelling to the unbeliever.

Believe in Christ, and you will be credited with the perfect righteousness of God.

There are three areas of evangelism in which the omnipotence of the Holy Spirit functions in common grace: sin, righteousness, and judgment.

2Co 5:19
namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them,

1Co 15:3
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

Since Christ was our substitute and was judged for our sins on the cross, “sin” here refers specifically to one sin only, the refusal to believe in Jesus Christ.

The personal sins of the unbeliever are NOT an issue in evangelism.

The issue is faith alone in Jesus Christ.

This refers to imputed righteousness, the perfect righteousness of God which Christ is and which is credited to the believer at the moment of salvation.

The issue is the absolute difference in quality between any human righteousness the unregenerate knows about and the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ.

All members of the human race who believe in Christ possess the perfect righteousness of God at the moment they believe.

This imputed righteousness is the basis for justification. God declares that we are vindicated; we are no longer under condemnation.

The Spirit shows the unbeliever that Christ as Savior answers every need of the human heart for time and eternity.

Both are imputed to us at the moment we believe in Christ.

There is a relationship between evangelism and the angelic conflict.

The human race was created to resolve the angelic conflict.

Like the angelic creatures, mankind was given free will to demonstrate to satan and the fallen angels the validity of God’s judgment on them.

Those who refuse to believe in Christ will share in the condemnation and eternal judgment of satan and the fallen angels, according to Rev 20:10-15.

Angels are in two camps - elect and fallen - , and they got to pick which camp they are in.

When man fell in the Garden, the human race came under the rulership of satan on planet earth, Heb 2:14-15.

When Christ came in His First Advent, He declared that He came to free the prisoners of satan, Luk 4:17-21.

1jo 3:8
The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.

John 16:11 teaches that it was through the cross that Christ triumphed over satan and his fallen angels.

The judgment in view in John 16:11 is the greatest of all judgments, which is now past and was accomplished by Christ as our Substitute when He died as the Just for the unjust.

At the cross, the Lord Jesus Christ vindicated the character and nature of God. By His spiritual death, He demonstrated the righteousness of God, Rom 3:21-26.
