The Lord is bringing us safely to glory.John Farley
Pastor-Teacher Sunday, December 11, 2016 Practical Christianity: When James talks about faith, he is referring to our faith as it is practiced in our daily lives after salvation. James simply does not address eternal salvation in this letter. Jam 2:14-17 The word “save” in Jam 2:14 σώζω
Sozo is an “all-purpose” Greek verb. You cannot blindly assume that sozo always refers to eternal salvation. In the New Testament, in close to half of the cases, it does not mean being redeemed from our sins. The word sozo is found in Heb 7:25 and it tells us something remarkable. Heb 7:23-25 Completely, totally, fully Pertaining to meeting a very high standard of quality or completeness. So He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, … because He always lives to intercede for them. It points to our Lord’s ongoing ministry to believers to intercede on their behalf again and again. The Lord is at work in us on a daily basis to meet a very high standard of quality and completeness. And that involves saving or delivering us from a host of dangers along the way to making us whole. 2Ti 4:18 Guess what the Greek word for “will bring me safely” in 2Ti 4:18 is? You got it! Weaknesses Romans 8 also tells us that our Lord Jesus Christ intercedes for us all the time now. Rom 8:33-39 But God in His love for us saves us from sinking when we face these things. He rescues us. He delivers us. He sozo’s us. The goalie made a great save. The batter was safe at first. Save the children She’s saving up for a new car. Save me the trouble of making an extra trip. Donald Trump saved 1,100 American jobs. By grace we have been saved through faith. “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered with the waves; but Jesus Himself was asleep. And they came to Him and woke Him, saying, "Save us, Lord; we are perishing! (Mat 8:24-25) He saved others; He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him. (Mat 27:42-43) “Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ' Father, save Me from this hour'? But for this purpose I came to this hour. (Joh 12:27)
