Our afflictions are Christ’s afflictions

Col 1:24-2:3

When we preach the gospel, we are simply to preach Christ.

Tell them that Christ died for the ungodly, Rom 5:6-10.

Tell them the amazing story of His resurrection from the dead, John 20.

Col 2:13-15

Proclaim that Christ’s resurrection from the dead proves that He is God, Rom 1:1-4.

And tell them about His great love for them, Eph 2:4-7.

And tell them that by simple faith in the death and resurrection of Christ …

…they will be given eternal life and be declared righteous by God!

Joh 3:16
Rom 3:21-26

God has willed to
make known
the riches of the glory of this mystery- Christ.

Paul suffered in laying down his life for the brethren in order to preach the mystery of Christ.

Col 1:24
Col 1:25-29

He is our head, and we are His body. He is in us, and we are in Him.

Our afflictions are Christ’s afflictions.

Act 9:1-6

Col 1:24

When Paul writes “for your sake”, this means that Paul suffered on their account -

- especially on account of the Gentiles in the church.

Act 22:19-24

This does not refer to any lack when it comes to Christ’s sufferings during His first advent.

And especially not in His unique, once for all time, sufferings on the cross to redeem us.

Christ’s personal sufferings are over, but His sufferings in His people continue.

Heb 2:9-18
