You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons

1Co 10:14-22

Chapters 8-10 address the issue of eating meat sacrificed to idols.

First, consider the needs of weaker brothers. (chapter 8)

Second, follow Paul’s example. (chapter 9)

Third, don’t repeat Israel’s mistakes. (chapter 10:1-13)

Fourth, don’t play with fire. (chapter 10:14-22)

He has built up to this climax in verse 14. Flee from idolatry!

There are some things from which we must simply flee.

This argument centers around the Lord’s Supper.

When you eat and drink with someone, you establish a bond with them.

It is eating and drinking as a means of worship.

Paul presents three instances where people eat and drink as a means of worship.

First, when the members of the congregation eat the bread and drink the cup at the Lord’s table.

The Greek word is koinonia.

A close association involving mutual interests and sharing.

Jointly participating in something based on what is held in common.

When people join together to eat a meal as a means of worship, they enter into a close association based on what they have in common.

A close association with one another.
And a close association with the one being worshipped.
Here the Lord or a demon.

They are communing with the one being worshipped.
They are active participants.

What does it mean to participate or share in the blood of Christ?

We participate as people who have been redeemed by the blood of Christ.

This means that we identify ourselves as members of the one body of Christ.

He bore our sins in His body on the cross. His body was broken for us.

We all share this. The one bread unites us as one body in Christ.

We are a community that belongs to Christ.

You have become a joint participant with the pagans in giving honor to a false god.

The worship of idols is evil. We are to worship the Lord our God – and Him ONLY.

Exo 20:1-6

1Co 10:20

Idols are not real.
But demons ARE real.

By eating the meat sacrificed to demons, the Corinthians became partners with the demons.

Demons will promote the worship of anything other than God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Demons are real, and they promote their own doctrines - deadly lies.

1Ti 4:1-3

The idols are fake, but the demons promoting the idol worship are real.

1Co 10:21-22

You cannot worship the Lord and also worship demons.

God demands exclusive worship. 100%.

Mat 4:8-10

Jesus cast out demons whenever He came upon them.

Deu 32:16-22

Our God is a jealous God.

Eating at the table of demons is committing spiritual adultery against the Lord.
