Pastor Teacher Sunday, February 23, 2020 God is not confused1Co 14:26-33 Neither one of these gifts – tongues nor prophecy - is in operation today. Chapter 12 addressed the common good of the body of Christ as a whole. Chapter 13 emphasized that all spiritual gifts must operate in love. Chapter 14:1-25 taught that prophecy was superior to tongues. Beginning in verse 26, he gave instructions to the saints at Corinth- concerning how they ought to use their communication gifts when the saints gathered together for worship. So these detailed instructions on tongues and prophecy are not applicable to our worship services today. There are five enduring principles They ought to guide our conduct when #1: All members of the body are gifted Each should have opportunity to use his gift to build up the church. 1Co 12:7 #2: Our services should be conducted properly and in an orderly manner. They should reflect the character of the Lord. Gal 5:22-23 #3: The content of speech should be judged according to the word of God. Act 17:11-12 #4: Spiritual gifts are useless without love. 1Co 13:2 #5: All things are to be done for the edification of the church . 1Co 14:26 We begin with our communication gifts. Psalm = song Rom 12:4-8 Communication: Serving: Showing mercy Eph 4:7-16 Evangelists Eph 2:19-22 We also need to make sure we do not exercise our gifts in a manner that results in confusion. Selfishness Jealousy Seeking one’s own Jam 3:13-18 God is not of confusion but of peace. This is ALSO true inside each one of our hearts. God does not want you to be confused or agitated. He wants you to rest. He wants His peace to guard your hearts and your minds.
