The Gospel

1Co 15:1-8

The resurrection of the body

Chapter 15 reaches a climax with an incredible description of the Rapture.

It begins with the resurrection of Christ.

Rather, it is the problem of wrong thought and belief.

1Co 15:12

Some members of the assembly were saying that there was no bodily resurrection of the dead.

Chapter 15 begins with the gospel of Jesus Christ :

Christ died for our sins, was buried, and was raised from the dead on the third day.

Paul presents overwhelming evidence that Christ was raised from the dead.

1Co 15:1-4

Receiving is not the same thing as believing.

We stand on the fact that Christ died for our sins and was raised from the dead on the third day.

Notice in verse 2 that holding fast is equated with believing.

“seeing that you hold on to the message that I (Paul) preached”

So what does believing in vain mean?

Check out the neighborhood.

1Co 15:13-17

To believe in vain is the believe a gospel that excludes the fact that Christ was raised from the dead in a human body.

Gal 1:6-12

The gospel which Paul preached is not according to man.

Jesus Christ revealed it to him directly.

1Co 15:3-5

This is the gospel of our salvation. Christ died for our sins, was buried and was raised on the third day.

God in His word tells us that Christ’s resurrection was a bodily resurrection.

Notice the phrase “according to the Scriptures”. These are the Old Testament scriptures.

Luk 24:36-47

There are many Messianic Psalms and a lot of material in the writings of the prophets, including Isaiah and Zechariah.

1Co 15:6-8

He appeared to many witnesses in His resurrection body. Some were still alive when Paul wrote 1 Corinthians.

Paul was himself an eyewitness that Christ was raised from the dead.

The resurrection of Christ is an historic fact. The Bible gives a very detailed account of where and when and how this happened.
