“Zeal for Your house will consume Me.”

Joh 2:12-22

Mary and Joseph had other children (naturally) after Jesus was born (supernaturally).

Mat 13:55-56

Joh 2:13-14

Passover was one of three Jewish feasts that required the men to travel to Jerusalem.

Act 2:9-11

There was a temple tax that was due in Jerusalem every year.

Now there was nothing wrong with providing these services.

There was everything wrong with providing them within the temple precincts.

What was worse, no one thought anything of it.

No one except Jesus, that is. God’s Son was enraged by that scene.

Joh 2:15-16

He did the right thing, and no right-thinking Jew could have disagreed.

Joh 2:17

That passage was in Psalm 69. A messianic Psalm.

Psa 69:7-9

David wrote this Psalm, but Jesus embodied it.

Psalm 69 is quoted more times in the New Testament than any other Psalm except Psalm 110.

Psa 69:21

Joh 19:28-30

But that zeal would set in motion a series of confrontations that would eventually lead to His death.

Joh 2:18-20

The Jewish leaders were not concerned with what He did. They challenged His authority to do it.

Mat 12:38-40

They asked Him for a sign.
He gave them a riddle instead.

Joh 2:19

He was pointing to His death on the cross, and His resurrection on the third day.

Joh 2:21-22

The animal sacrifices in the Holy of Holies of the temple could not take away sins.

The body of Jesus did.

Heb 10:8-10

The glory of the Lord left the Temple building in the days of Ezekiel.

Ezel 10:18

The glory of the Lord will always dwell in the body of Christ.

Joh 1:14

Joh 2:22

The Spirit would teach them all things, and remind them of what Jesus has said.

Joh 14:26

Luk 24:25-27

Then they wrote it all down, so that those who did not see could believe also.
