Witness testimonyJoh 5:30-38 The gospel of John is full of witness testimony to the facts about who Jesus is. 1. God the Father (verses 32, 34, & 37-38) 3. The works of Jesus (verse 36) 5. The Scriptures, particularly the writings of Moses (verses 39, & 45-47) Joh 5:30 Verse 30 completes the paragraph that began in verse 19. Joh 5:19 Verse 19 talks about seeing and doing, while Verse 30 talks about hearing and judging. Joh 5:31-32 Verses 31-32 Another of the same nature who testifies of Jesus is His Father. What testimony We learn the nature of the Father’s testimony about Jesus in verses 36-38. Joh 5:36-38 The Father gives two kinds of testimony: (1) the works He gives Jesus to perform, and (2) the word that the Father has spoken concerning His Son. Joh 5:33-35 Joh the Baptist testified to the truth about who Jesus is. Joh 1:6-8 Joh 1:29 Jesus did not need John’s testimony. John baptized in water to manifest the Savior and Messiah to Israel. Joh 5:36 The testimony of the works that the Father has given the Son to do is far greater than the testimony of John. Joh 10:24-26 What works? The entire mission of Christ, culminating with His death and resurrection. Joh 17:4 The Father sent the Son to save the world. The works include the signs that He performed, particularly the signs that proved that He was the Messiah. Joh 20:30-31 The works of Jesus also include the words that He spoke. Joh 14:10 His words will one day call every man out of the tombs. Joh 10:37-38 Joh 5:37-38 These Jews had not heard His voice or seen His form because they did not believe that Jesus was God’s Son. Heb 1:1-3 Jesus is the fulfillment of all of that revelation. The fact that they did not believe in Christ proved that they did not have God’s word dwelling in them. Rom 10:14-15 Joh 20:21 So Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you."
