The LORD's Anointed.John Farley
Pastor Teacher Sunday, October 31, 2021 The LORD’s AnointedJoh 1:35-41 The Messiah, the Christ, is central to the mission of the gospel of John. The word Messiah comes from the Hebrew word for “anointed”:
The Greek word “christos” is the exact equivalent of mashiyach. In the NAS, “mashiyach” is translated “Messiah” in just one passage. Dan 9:24-26 “mashiyach”
The word “mashiyach” was used for two offices: High Priest , and King. It referred most often to the King of Judah or Israel. 1Sa 24:4-6 David was the greatest King of Israel or Judah in the Old Testament. 1Sa 16:6-13 “mashiyach” also pointed to a greater king who would come after David. 1Sa 2:10 Psa 2:1-12 The Lord calls the Messiah His Son. His kingdom will be far greater than David’s was. Psa 132:10-18 He would be a descendant of David, a “Son” of David. Next week, we will listen to the promises that the Lord gave David. They became the Davidic Covenant:
