Let him come to ME and drink.

Joh 7:37-39

The Feast of Booths was an 8-day celebration at the time of the harvest.

It was a time for giving thanks to the Lord for His abundant blessings.

The Feast of Booths anticipated the great blessings of the future Messianic kingdom.

Water for the thirsty: Thirsty ground, and thirsty men.

They expected the Messiah to come to Jerusalem soon as the King of Israel.

And then rich springs of water would flow throughout the land.

Isaiah 12:2-3

On the last day of the feast, this expectation rose to a fever pitch.

Isa 55:1

Joh 7:37-39

Jesus knew that He was the One that Isaiah had spoken about.

Despite all that water, they were still thirsty.

He could quench their thirst.
No one else could.

Joh 4:13-14

He could no longer hold His tongue.

Joh 7:37

He says, “Let them come to ME and drink!”

It’s a thirst in a man’s innermost being.
It is the thirst for eternal life.

Joh 7:38

He had the water. All they had to do was drink it.

Drinking is a metaphor for
believing in Him.

Innermost being. Rivers of living water. A well of water springing up.

Isa 44:3

The Lord used water to represent the outpouring of the Spirit in the last days.

Joh 7:39

This outpouring of the Spirit would not come to pass until Jesus was glorified.

The glory that the Father gave Him when He completed His mission.

Joh 17:1-5

Heb 2:9

The Father glorified Jesus when Jesus died for the sin of the world.

1Pe 1:20-21

God glorified Jesus again when God raised Him from the dead.

Now, the Holy Spirit comes to indwell the heart of each and every believer.

1Co 12:13
