Behold, your King is coming!

Joh 12:9-19

John’s account of Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

John’s purpose was to present evidence that Jesus is the Christ and the Son of God.

The Old Testament spoke of the Messiah, the One who was yet to come.

The LORD promised that king David’s throne will be established forever.

One of the greatest prophecies of the coming Messiah is Zechariah 9:9-10.

Zec 9:9-10

When Jesus enters Jerusalem to the acclaim of the Jewish people,

He presents Himself as the promised King, the greatest descendant of David.

Joh 12:9-11

John emphasizes the electrifying effect that Lazarus’s raising from the dead had.

The raising of Lazarus explains why the massive crowd greeted Him.

It also explains the ensuing behavior of the Sanhedrin.

Joh 12:12-16

They were ready to welcome Him as their King!

The word “hosanna” was a greeting that included a wish for the blessings of salvation.

Psa 118:19-26

The stone which the builders rejected points to the death of Christ on the cross.

The one who comes in the name of the Lord no longer refers to the pilgrims.

It has been transformed to mean the King who brings salvation!

Mat 21:8 - "Hosanna to the Son of David;

Mar 11:10 - Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David;
Hosanna in the highest!"

Luk 19:38 - "BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD;

Joh 12:13 - "BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, even the King of Israel."

And Jesus accepted the welcome. He presented Himself as the promised King.

Jesus accepted this kingship that His Father offered Him.

This king would first be the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

Jesus arranged for the colt to be there that day.
