Mat 26:36-54 interlocks Mat 26:36-46 fits between Joh 18:1 and Joh 18:2. Joh 18:8-9 Here in verses 8 and 9, we see Jesus as the good Shepherd who cares for His sheep. Joh 10:11, 26-30 Jesus fulfills the words He had spoken earlier in this gospel. Joh 17:11-12 Joh 18:10-11 He is going to drink that cup in a few hours. Mat 26:36-46 Jesus prayed about this cup in the garden. Why did Jesus pray to His Father to let this cup pass from Him? Luk 22:41-44 What was the horror that gave Jesus such agony and grief? It was more than physical suffering and death. Psa 11:4-6 The cup is the portion of the wicked. It is the cup of the wrath of God against sin. Psa 75:7-8 The cup contains divine indignation against the wicked, against sin. Jer 25:15-16 Why would Jesus have to drink this cup? It was the only way that sinners could be saved. Act 4:11-12 Jesus felt the horror and agony of the only sinless one bearing the sins of the world. 1Pe 2:21-25 Only the spotless Lamb of God could take away the sin of the world. 2Co 5:21 He was made to be sin. He endured the wrath of God against sin when He bore our sins in His body on the cross. There was no other way besides the infinite sacrifice of the Son of God on the cross.
