Starting in verse 7, John mentions the many deceivers that are in the world.
Those deceivers are people that confess not that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. By definition, the scriptures say, those folks are deceivers and anti-Christ.
The Bible documents groups who denied Christ, too. Think broader than the Antichrist — there are many of those groups today.

The scriptures are clear: 1) Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God and 2) that same Christ came physically in the flesh.
God gave a stamp of approval to Jesus Christ, His Son — Mar 9:2-7
Jesus Christ said He was the Christ, the Son of the Blessed — Mar 14:60-65
Act 2:29-36
What’s the full reward in verse 8? It’s heavenly. It’s eternal, in other words.

There are many today confess not that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. They are not abiding in the doctrine of Christ which includes both the Father and His Son.
John is an elder, remember, and he has a particular concern for how false doctrine can impact a church. Keep them at a distance.
If they don’t abide there, don’t invite them into your house. If you do, you risk being a partaker of the evil deeds they practice. Christians should hate evil.

Perhaps 2 John 12 is a nod to the severe persecution John dealt with. To some extent, we will deal with persecution for the sake of Christ, in pursuit of that full reward.

Thank God for His Son, and for our doctrine which is centered around Him.
His Son came in the flesh, and all of our hope is in Him. Pray for those who deny Christ’s birth, death, and resurrection, and prepare for persecution when it comes. Consider the full reward!
