Title:

Let all nations call him blessed

Psa 72:8-20

As a reminder, we learned last week a few of the ways Psalm 72 has a near-term fulfillment in Solomon, and a future fulfillment in Jesus Christ.

Solomon judged rightly, and he brought peace in his time. Jesus Christ will do the same on a greater, permanent scale.

Psa 72:8-10 talk about the dominion the king’s son will have.

Solomon had dominion over a vast swath of land:

1Ki 4:21-26

Solomon, with all his power, did something Jesus will never do: 1Ki 11:1-11

Jesus has dominion, too, but much greater in scope than Solomon.

Mat 28:16-20

Phi 2:5-11

1Co 15:24-27

Rev 3:14-22

Psa 72:11 says all nations will serve this person. Many served Solomon, we read earlier, but not all.

By contrast, Jesus Christ is Lord and everyone will acknowledge Him as such in a future time: Rom 14:10-12

Luk 1:41-55

Luk 2:7-14

In Psa 72:12-14 we read that this man will 1) deliver + spare the needy and the poor and 2) redeem their soul from deceit and violence.

Luk 4:14-22

Luk 21:20-28

Gal 3:10-15

Their blood will be precious in His sight: Psa 116:15

Psa 72:15-16 switches back to Solomon. Remember Queen Sheba?

1Ki 10:1-13

1Ki 9:24-28

Psa 72:17 says the name of this man will endure forever. Solomon died and was buried, same with his father David.

Mat 22:41-46

Act 2:29-36

Heb 1:8-12

Rev 21:21-27

Solomon was a picture of Christ, but a ultimately flawed man. Jesus Christ our Lord provides for our needs, he is a Deliverer, and we has dominion even now.

We serve a God that knows our needs and provides for them, including our most important one. Praise God for His sinless Son and all the blessings therein, and let His name be praised forever.
