The Holiest Child of All
Luk 2:1-11
This was no mere child — prophets foresaw His coming in the Old Testament, and an angel spoke about him in the previous chapter.
Luk 1:26-36
Old Testament references to Christ: Isa 9:6-7 Isa 11:1-5 Jer 30:18-22
From Galilee to Bethlehem would have been something like 60-75 miles away. Back then, that trip might take 3-4 days to complete.
Jesus Christ was Mary’s firstborn (Luke 2:7), which is especially vital given the all-important virgin birth.
This same Child is firstborn in another way. He’s preeminent, and part of what we celebrate during Christmas is tied to his first importance to us.
Rev 3:14 Rev 1:4-6 Heb 1:1-7 Col 1:13-20
Elizabeth was also having a child (Luke 1:36) which would have given Mary some solace. That’s a sign from the Lord, and a significant one.
We read earlier that Jesus would be called the Son of God (Luke 1:31) right before the angel explained how the virgin birth would come about.
This same Child allowed us to become children of a much different sort. Eph 2:1-7 Gal 4:1-7 1Jo 3:1-3
Mat 2:1-11
These men asked about the King of the Jews, and they came to worship Him:
Zec 9:9-10
Interestingly, the wise men came from some places further east than Judea. The Bible is unclear about where they came from, but they revered this Child and we should too.
What we do know is that we all can trust on this Child’s name + thus be saved: Isa 42:1-6 Mat 12:9-21 Gal 3:23-28
Remember what Christ’s birth and early life represents where the New Testament is concerned.
Luk 1:68-80
The Christmas season is about Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of the Father. Let that be front of mind during this month and every month.
We believers are children of God today via that Holy Child Christ. Keep him first during Christmas as we ponder the wonderful blessings we enjoy in Him.
