2Co 11:1-4

Title: A different Jesus

 

Last week, we read that Paul implored readers to listen to him — he had a godly jealousy for them, and they’d already considered other men who had false and selfish motives.

 

In 2Co 11:4, Paul chides his readers for their willingness to hear those who preached a substantially different Jesus than that of the scriptures.

 

In the same way that the readers at Corinth, should have given the false apostles no ear, we should quickly distinguish what’s true and what’s false, then move accordingly.

 

Jesus Christ warned His listeners about false prophets: Mat 7:15-20

 

Mark and avoid those whose doctrine is contrary to the truth: Rom 16:17-20

 

Be wary also of the false gospel they push, and of false Christs: Gal 1:6-10

 

False prophets and false teachers are out there, and you should be wary of them:

2Pe 2:1-3

 

 

Deception is a extraordinarily important matter to Paul (and other authors). That’s why he hammers the idea home to his readers about sticking to what he’d already taught them.

 

Can a Christian be deceived? Only temporarily, and his salvation will not be in question because he will not ultimately be lost: Joh 10:24-30

 

The spirit of the antichrist is in the world even now. There also will be a false prophet down the line who will decieve:

Mat 24:5-14,

Rev 13:11-15

 

The antichrist, when he comes, will deceive many into thinking he is that very Christ:

2Th 2:1-10,

1Jo 2:18-24

 

Consider the Jesus of the scriptures. That’s who all believers follow, and no one can choose to follow their own version of Jesus Christ.

 

Jesus Christ is our Lord:

Joh 20:24–28, Act 2:29-36

 

Remember Judas?

 

Our Lord Jesus Christ is full of grace and truth: Exo 34:1-6, Joh 1:14, Joh 8:19-26

 

Our Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God: Joh 20:26-31,

1Jo 5:1-6

 

The Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead: Act 10:36-43,

1Co 15:1-8

 

Our Lord Jesus Christ was taken up in glory:

Act 1:6-11,

1Ti 3:14-16

 

Place your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ of the scriptures, and Him alone. Anything short of that Jesus, and any deviation from that Jesus, undermines the gospel (of Jesus Christ).

 

Being intimately familiar with what the scriptures testify to concerning Jesus Christ will help distinguish between who you should hear, and those you should not. You can help others in your orbit, too.

 

What’s more edifying — speech, or knowledge? Why does Paul bring up the concept of him being untrained, and why does that matter contextually?
