Spiritual Gifts Part 92: In Christ, you are positionally higher than the angels.

The Doctrine of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

C. The Baptism of the Spirit is the ministry of God the Holy Spirit in placing every new believer into permanent union with the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Body the Church.

Point 1. Defining our terms.

Point 2. The two kinds of baptisms in the New Testament.

Point 3. The prophecy of the Baptism of the Spirit.

Point 4. Definition and description of the Baptism of the Spirit.

The Baptism of the Spirit: At the moment of salvation, the omnipotence of God the Holy Spirit places the Church Age believer into an eternal vital union with Christ,

thus identifying the believer with Christ and making them a permanent member of the Body of Christ- the Royal Family of God, a new spiritual species, and eternally secure.

Documentation:

Mar 16:16; Joh 7:37-39; Joh 14:20; Act 1:5; Act 2:1-4; Rom 6:3-5; 1Co 12:13; Gal 3:26-28; Col 2:11-13; 1Pe 3:21).

1.The baptism of the Holy Spirit is a real baptism, an actual identification, in which God the Holy Spirit, at the moment we believe in Christ, places or enters the new believer in union with Christ.

2. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the means of forming the royal family of God during the Church Age.

3. The result of the baptism of the Spirit, union with Christ, is also called “positional truth” or “positional sanctification”.

The New Testament refers to positional truth in many places with the expression “in Christ” or “en Christoo” in the Greek. Also “in Christ Jesus”, “in Him”.

Almost everywhere this phrase is found, it is a technical reference to the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the resultant positional truth.

1Co 15:22
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

Sanctification means to be set apart or consecrated to God. It means belonging to God in an intimate way.

Believers become sanctified at the moment of salvation. This is known as positional sanctification; 1Co 1:2.

Believers become sanctified after salvation when doctrine is resident in their soul and they are filled with the Spirit.
This is known as experiential sanctification; 2Ti 2:21.

And believers will become sanctified when the resurrection of their bodies takes place, and this is known as ultimate sanctification, Phi 3:21.

When applied to the Church, sanctification means that God has created a brand new species of spiritual royalty set apart for the maximum glorification of TLJC.

ROM 8:29
For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren;

a. positional sanctification
b. experiential sanctification
c. ultimate sanctification

The term “sanctification” means to be set apart to God for a special purpose.

The most popular word used in the Bible concerning sanctification is the word hagios meaning holy or saint.

Because of positional sanctification, all believers are holy and are saints, 1Co 1:2!

This word means that you have been set apart by God for a special purpose.

A saint is someone who has been consecrated for God forever, and all Church-age believers are called saints.

hagios is translated holy and saint, and is merely the Bible title for royalty!

The Passover feast was instituted as a memorial to be held throughout all succeeding generations, a sign of Israel’s liberation from Egyptian bondage.

The last time, it was to be Himself, the sacrificial Lamb, to liberate all mankind from the bondage of sin.

1Co 5:7b

For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.

The central figure was the lamb, which was to be without blemish, a one-year-old male.

Twilight for the Jews begins around 3:00 in the afternoon, which made it a very interesting time for the lamb to die.

Christ was crucified on the Passover, and He entered into Jerusalem four days earlier, the very day that the paschal lamb was set apart.

The Lord only actually delivered those who were obedient and availed themselves of the expiation from sin provided by the efficacious covering of the blood the Lord’s Lamb.

We must, by faith, feed upon the Lord Jesus Christ through the intake of His Word.

In Exodus 12:6-9, we have the lamb that was to be slain and roasted with fire, representing the sufferings of the Lord Jesus even unto death, that is, the death on the Cross.

Mat 20:28
“just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

The heart of Passover was substitutionary atonement. By the violent death of another, the firstborn was spared.

The Passover lamb without defect pointed to Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God who knew no sin. In his incarnation and death Jesus became sin for us.

Jesus alone is without sin. He is the Passover Lamb without defect, by whose death we are spared.

Jewish bondage in Egypt was a shadow of the universal bondage of man in sin.

The Passover is a beautiful illustration of the redemption Christ accomplished at Calvary.

The offering was to be without blemish; 1Pe 1:19.

The lamb had to be killed, Joh 12:24.

The blood had to be applied, Heb 9:22, Eph 1:7.
