Spiritual Gifts Part 209: Nevertheless, not I but Christ runs in me.

The word for “race” in Heb 12:1, agona, is in other places translated as a “fight”. It can mean a contest, a fight, or a battle.

We have 1 verb that directs us to move away from the things that weigh us down.

We have 3 verbs exhorting us to move forward and upard in our spiritual life.

2Ti 2:22
Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

Both lifestyles – the life style of the love of money, and the life style of the love of the brethren – require finances.

It comes down to what you do with it, and whose agenda you’re running.

“run” = present active subjunctive of trecho;
by a metaphor taken from the runners in a race, to exert oneself, strive hard;

“run” = trecho;
to spend one's strength in performing or attaining something. (Thayer)

Focused on results? Legalism.
Focusing on attitude is consistent with grace.

Heb 2:10
For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings.

The race is the advance in the Christian spiritual life in time.

The time frame for us to complete our race begins with faith in Christ and ends with our physical death or the Rapture.

The objective is described as resurrection life in time, supergrace, and spiritual maturity.

God the Holy Spirit’s objective: (Pastor Clark)

To produce the fruit of an obedient life in believers …

 which makes manifest the life of Christ in us so that we are an exact mirror image reflection of the humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ before our physical death.

Gal 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
