Fourth of July special:
The two kinds of freedom.

The Fourth of July is unique because it is a celebration of freedom.

The Fourth of July is the day to consider what our freedom is all about.

There is
human freedom,
and there is
spiritual freedom.

Human or establishment freedom is the heritage of physical birth.
Spiritual freedom is the heritage of regeneration –being born again from above.

Human freedom is exemption from arbitrary control and exploitation.

“My God! How little do my countrymen know what precious blessings they are in possession of, and which no other people on earth enjoy!”
Thomas Jefferson

Authority without freedom is tyranny.

Freedom without authority is anarchy (chaos).

So they are a package deal.

Human freedom cannot exist or be effective apart from human responsibility.

Freedom and authority must co-exist on the basis of integrity – the virtues and values attained by a nation in any given generation.

The greatest decision that human freedom can make is to believe in Jesus Christ for salvation.

This spiritual freedom is a gracious gift from God to the believer in Christ, 2Co 3:17-18.

He used His spiritual freedom to pay the price for the sins of the world:
to rescue us from the slave market of sin, Heb 9:14.

Gal 5:1
It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

Spiritual freedom
can function
with or without
human freedom.

This freedom is the gift of the Holy Spirit who indwells us, and is perpetuated by the ministries of the Holy Spirit to the believer.

“It was a deal: we preached and they beat us. We were happy preaching; they were happy beating us—so everyone was happy.”

Richard Wurmbrand
