Spiritual Gifts Part 304:

The Lord wants to train us to see with spiritual eyes.

The Doctrine of Spiritual Gifts

Point 4.
Developing the capacity you need to function effectively in your spiritual gift.

How does the Master produce a vessel that is fit for His use?

He uses situations of suffering to accelerate the production and manifestation of virtues.

He also has plans to develop our perseverance and persistence in believing what we have received from the word of God.

God is accomplishing something mighty, but it remains hidden.

The evidence of it is still quite small.

1Co 1:25

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

1Co 3:19

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God.

He is training us to see with spiritual eyes instead of fleshly eyes.

“God is more concerned about the constitution of His servants on true Divine principles than He is about the doing of things by way of demonstrating His power.” [T Austin-Sparks]

He is focused on working into the very fiber of His people that faith that can hold on, stand fast, even against His own seeming indifference.

There was the contest to defeat Baal, and then the battle of self: the contest to overcome inward unbelief.

The major passages in the New Testament on the spiritual gifts all talk about how vital it is to develop capacity to exercise your gift effectively: Rom 12, 1Co 12-14, Eph 4, 1 Pet 4.

Romans – general audience of the local assembly in all places and times

1 Corinthians – solving problems in the carnal local assembly

Ephesians – the Church writ LARGE: Christ and His Body

1 Peter- the suffering believers

1Co 14:20

Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature.

All of the major New Testament passages on spiritual gifts speak of the importance of discernment and mature thinking.

Discernment is the ability to be able to consistently see or read a situation accurately according to the standards of the word of God.
