The Activity of the Holy Spirit in the lives of Church Age believers, part 3.

Does the Bible make our confessing our sins in 1 John 1:9 the determining factor in our being filled by the Spirit in Eph 5:18?

Does this passage in 1Jo 1:1-7 say that a person can go from having fellowship with the Father to not having fellowship with the Father?

You cannot be IN THE DARKNESS and have fellowship with God.

Here we have a person in fellowship with John, and John’s fellowship is with the Father and the Son, so here we have a person who is walking in the Light and has fellowship.

Nothing is said here clearly and directly that indicates that it is even possible for someone to go from having fellowship to not having fellowship.

It all comes down to whether a person can be in the Light and go back to being in the darkness.

Does 1 John say that a person can go from being in the Light to being in the darkness?

The movement is from darkness to Light.
There is clearly no movement here from being in the Light to being in darkness.

There is only one other section in 1 John that refers to either darkness or Light. And it is a few verses later, in 1Jo 2:8-11.

People who hate their brother and are IN THE DARKNESS.
People who love their brother and ABIDE IN THE LIGHT.

You cannot say from the letter of 1 John that anyone who has fellowship with God the Father and God the Son can ever lose fellowship with God the Father or God the Son.

in 1 John the movement is always from darkness to the Light and NEVER from the Light back into the darkness.

Does that turn out to be the way things are across the New Testament?

Joh 8:12
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, " I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."

The Church

A new commandment
(a special kind of Love)

And the Holy Spirit

Joh 12: 46

“ I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.”

The movement is always from darkness to the Light. It is NEVER from the Light back into the darkness. NEVER. NEVER.
NOT EVER.

Luk 1:76-79
Act 26:18
Eph 5:8
1Th 5:4-5
1Pe 2:9-10

Acts 26: 18
to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God,

The movement is always from darkness to the Light. It is NEVER from the Light back into the darkness. NEVER. NEVER.
NOT EVER.
