The Activity of the Holy Spirit in the lives of Church Age believers, part 14.

The very first direct mention of the Holy Spirit in the Gospel of John is here in chapter 1 verse 32.

The Holy Spirit from heaven made this demonstration in order that John might recognize who Jesus is.

The Holy Spirit identifies Jesus
and provides witness to Jesus.

Any time an individual is specially mentioned in the Bible as being filled with the Spirit or having the Spirit descend on him, we can look at that person’s life and learn something about the Holy Spirit.

He was totally committed to testifying about the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

All of the activity of the Holy Spirit is for one purpose: to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit is completely devoted to our Lord Jesus Christ. This was true in the Old Testament, during His First Advent, and it is true throughout the Church Age as well.

The Holy Spirit was instrumental in the conception, development, birth, growing up, training, testing, death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus.

To enable us to SEE who Jesus IS…
And then to embolden us to TESTIFY about who Jesus is.

The role that the Holy Spirit played during the First Advent of Jesus is duplicated with the Church.

So the Holy Spirit identifies Jesus to church age believers, and makes witnesses.

To enable us to SEE who Jesus IS…
And then to embolden us to TESTIFY about who Jesus is.

The Holy Spirit will glorify the Lord Jesus Christ by taking of Christ’s and disclosing Christ to us.

How does the Holy Spirit identify Jesus now?

  1. Directly
  2. Through the written Word
  3. Through the brethren

Directly – the indwelling Christ
The word – the mind of Christ
The brethren – the body of Christ

The Holy Spirit has one all-encompassing concern: He is focused with all His capacity upon the Lord Jesus, to make Him glorious, and that in church age believers.
