Up, up and AWAY!

The power of grace is MUCH GREATER than the power of sin.

Rom 5:20
The Law came in so that the transgression would increase;

It does NOT say that the Law came in so that the transgression would cease!

It’s grace and grace alone that comes in so that the transgression would decrease and cease.

The place of the Law in God’s plan of salvation.

It doesn’t save us. The Law cannot give life.

The Mosaic Law doesn’t even condemn us. (We were all condemned by the one sin of Adam)

What then was the function of the Law given through Moses??

Here in verse 20 we are told that the Law entered in alongside the sin that had previously (in verse 12) entered into human history.

The Law entered in alongside in order that the transgression, the actual sins and offences of man, might increase.

1. The Law increases the knowledge of sin. Rom 3:20; Rom 7:7.

2. The Law increases the conviction of sin, Rom 3:19, Rom 7:13.

3. The Law incites men to sin. Rom 7:5,8,11.

4. The Law is our schoolmaster to lead us to Christ our Savior. Gal 3:22-24.

Rom 10:4
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

The woman who knows the most about the grace of God is the woman who knows the most about her own sinfulness.
Luk 7:46-50.

The Greek word is a superlative, not a comparative.

huperperisseuo

It is not the difference between a strong man and a stronger man.

It is the difference between
a strong man…

…and Superman.
