There's nothing old about the new you.John Farley
Pastor-Teacher Sunday, August 31, 2014 There’s nothing old about the new you.Who is this old man of ours? He is different from the body of sin. He was crucified with Christ. The old man is not the sinful nature.
The old man is who we were in Adam. The old man is a kind of man whose history really ended at the cross. The old man is the race of mankind who were slaves to sin and under the law. There is not too much “old” in the New Testament epistles. Abraham was 100 years OLD OLD testament OLD widows The OLD covenant OLD sins NONE We who are in Christ are not said to have an the Greek verb for “passed away” is in the aorist active indicative. 2 Cor 5:17 2 Cor 5:17 “have become” is in the perfect active indicative. The use of the aorist followed by the perfect Aorist = This happened and it’s back there. The old things passed away and we left them behind back there in the past. Perfect = This happened and the results of the event are still with us! Perfect = our present state follows a prior action. The action is concluded and the actor is at rest, but the results of the action are still in existence! The New Testament does not state that we believers in Christ have a new nature and an old nature… …that are fighting it out to be in control of our life; and the one you feed more wins. There is the inner man – YOU now, according to God – who is being renewed by the Spirit… and the outer man – the flesh, the body of sin – which is decaying and being put out of business by the Spirit. The inner man and the outer man are not two different but complete human natures… …and they are not on any kind of equal footing!
