Pastor-Teacher Wednesday, March 18, 2015 A night for rejoicing in the SpiritVerses 1-13: Rom 8:1-13 There is not a single imperative in Romans 8! There will be commands to us in relation to the Holy Spirit in later epistles. The first command to us, to church age believers, related to the Holy Spirit, appears to be in the book of Galatians. So much foundation truth about who the Spirit is and what His ministry is to us comes before we are ever given a command related to the Spirit. It is who He is and what He has done and is doing that is primary. We come into that picture and co-operate with Him in these things. He regenerates us – we are born again by the Spirit. Joh 3:6 He is the Spirit of Life Joh 6:63-64 The indwelling Spirit is rivers of living water. Joh 7:37-39 He is our Helper, and the Spirit of truth. Joh 14:16-17 The Holy Spirit teaches us all things, reminding us of Christ’s teachings. Joh 14:26 The Spirit has poured the love of God into our hearts as a permanent blessing. Rom 5:5 He is the agent of Life in Christ Jesus, the new governing power that prevailed over old one, sin and death. Rom 8:2 He enables us to walk (a manner of life) in accordance with His leading, … … such that He fulfills the righteousness of the Law in us. Rom 8:4 He enables us to put to death the deeds of the body. Rom 8:12-13 The Spirit testifies that we are the children of God. Rom 8:16 The Spirit intercedes for us in prayer. Rom 8:26-27 We abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Rom 15:13 He enables us to understand the wisdom of God. 1Co 2:6-13 The Spirit dwells in the church to make us the temple of God. 1Cor 3:16 The Spirit distributes Spiritual gifts to each member of the body of Christ. 1Co 12:4-7,11 The Spirit baptized us into the Body of Christ. 1Co 12:12-13 God the Father sealed us with the Spirit as a pledge of our inheritance in Christ. 2Co 1:21-22 He guarantees our liberty and is transforming us into the Lord’s glory. 2Co 3:17-18 The fellowship of the Spirit is with us in the same way the grace of Christ and the love of God is. 2Co 13:14 All of this is provided and established before we ever get to the first command for us in relation to the Spirit.
