What will your heart be adorned with?

Col 3:1-11

from verses 5 to 9 we have the negative side of practical Christianity.

Col 3:12-17

The positive side is also first and foremost activity of the HEART.
 

Notice how many of the commands in Colossians 3 have to do with the heart: the inner man, the mind, our thinking.

Mat 15:18-20

When we turn to the positive commands, the heart is addressed almost exclusively.

Forgiveness occurs in the heart.

Love is an adornment of the heart.

The word of God is to dwell richly – in our hearts.

The concern is why you do what you do, and having a grateful heart when you do it.

Col 3:18-25

The Lord does not specify specific external actions. He specifies heart attitudes.

It’s profound, this everyday work going on in our hearts …

when the word of God and the Holy Spirit team up with us to have us put on these new virtues.
