Spiritual Gifts Part 84: Adoption includes a decision, a declaration, the execution, and the consummation.

huiothesia means God’s recognizing Church Age believers in that position as a child come of age, an adult son.

EPH 1:5 He predestined us to adoption as sons [in the past - eternity past]

GAL 4:5 that we might receive the adoption as sons [now at salvation]

ROM 8:14 you have received a spirit of adoption as sons [now, looking back at the moment of faith]
ROM 8:23 waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons [future - at the Rapture]

EPH 1:5 He predestined us to adoption as sons [in the past - eternity past]

GAL 4:5 that we might receive the adoption as sons [now at salvation]

ROM 8:14 you have received a spirit of adoption as sons [now, looking back at the moment of faith]
ROM 8:23 waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons [future - at the Rapture]

Our father has the right to discipline His sons (HEB 12:5-11).

We are members of a family, and we are to love the members of the family in the special way that our Father loves the members of this family, 1JO 5:1.

GAL 6:10
So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.

1. If we have the Spirit of adoption, we have lost the spirit of bondage again to fear (ROM 8:15).

2. We have been given a spirit of liberty.

3. We receive this spirit of adoption through the indwelling Holy Spirit.

ROM 8:16
The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,

4. Because we have been adopted into God’s family, we are entitled to bear His name.

EPH 2:19
So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household,

5. We can enjoy the present protection and consolation which God alone can give, and the provision He makes for His children .

LUK 12:7
Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

HEB 13:5
for He Himself has said, " I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,

EPH 2:18
for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.

MAT 6:8
your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

6. We are under the training of fatherly discipline.

7. We are heirs of God and fellow-heirs with Christ.

1CO 3:21-23
21 So then let no one boast in men. For all things belong to you, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come;

1CO 3:21-23 (cont.)

22b all things belong to you, 23 and you belong to Christ; and Christ belongs to God.

8. There is the certainty and security of it all.

ROM 8:38
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,

ROM 8:39
nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

If God has taken me into His family, I am not only a child, I am an heir, and nothing and no one can ever rob me of the inheritance.

9. We will be conformed to the image of Christ, the uniquely born Son of God, 1JO 3:2; ROM 8:29 .

ROM 8:29
For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;

We are also, above and beyond all that glorious good news, we are declared to be the sons of God, the heirs of God, joint heirs with the only begotten Son of God.

HEB 2:10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings.

It is a result not only of regeneration but also the baptism by the Spirit, which places the new believer into a permanent organic union with the Lord Jesus Christ.

It includes....
a decision,
a declaration,
the execution, and
the consummation.
