Suggested reading plan for the Gospel of John

Pastor Kingsley Emenike

In the beginning was the Word

JOH 20:30-31

1. Signs
2. Believe
3. The Christ
4. The Son of God
5. Life

JOH 1:1-18

GEN 1:1

The “beginning” of Genesis 1:1 is the beginning of the creation.

JOH 17:5

The “beginning” in John 1:1 is infinitely earlier than the creation of the heavens and the earth.

The best word to describe it is “eternal”.

And in that same eternity past, the Word existed also.

The LORD revealed Himself in the Old Testament as the only God. There is only one God.

DEU 4:39
ISA 45:5

JOH 1:1-2

With the coming of His Son into the world, He reveals Himself as two persons while remaining one God.

The whole gospel of John should be read in light of this one verse.

He begins this gospel by asserting the very thing he will ask the reader to believe in the end.

Who is this Word?

He always existed.
He was with God.
He is God.

JOH 1:3-5

We know from the Old Testament that God created all things.

The Word is the creator of all things.

COL 1:16-17

We also learn that all things have been created for the Son!

Jesus is the Lord of creation. He performed several signs that proved this.

JOH 1:4

The Word is the source of all life.

JOH 5:26

By raising Lazarus from the dead, Jesus showed He was the source of physical life.

He is also the source of eternal life.

JOH 11:25-26

He has always existed.
He always is with God.
He is God.
