Judge with righteous judgment

JOH 7:16-24

Verse 17 states a general principle.

Starting in verse 19, Jesus makes a specific application to His audience.

JOH 5:45-47

JOH 7:19

Exhibit 1: they sought to murder an innocent Man - Jesus.

JOH 5:5-18

They accused Him of being a law breaker, yet they actually broke the law themselves.

JOH 7:20-24

This one deed was healing the man who had been paralyzed for 38 years.

They were astonished, but they reacted very unfavorably.

The Lord established a covenant with Abraham, the first Hebrew.

Circumcision became the sign of this covenant.

GEN 17:6-12

Later on, when the LORD gave the Law to Moses, He included circumcision.

LEV 12:1-3

The male child had to be circumcised on the eighth day.

The Sabbath was a day of rest. It was also given in the Law of Moses.

DEU 5:12-15

By not doing any work, any labor.

And by remembering that when you were a slave, the Lord freed you.

The Sabbath was made for man. A day of refreshment, rest, and freedom.

Sabbath - freedom from bondage. The bondage of slavery. The bondage of toil.

ROM 4:9-12

It is a seal of righteousness which is by faith, not works.

JOH 7:23-24

It’s easy to get caught up in appearances.

That disappears once you judge according to the righteousness of the Law.

ROM 8:3-4

Not the appearances, but the heart.
Not the letter, but the spirit.

JOH 7:23-24

For one thing, it means to be the opposite of a Pharisee.

LUK 11:42-43

You understand the heart of your Father. His priorities are your priorities.

A man who’d been paralyzed for 38 years was anything but free, anything but at rest.

That it is lawful to do good on the sabbath, not harm. To save a life, not to kill.

Love is the fulfillment of the Law.
