Class Outline:
How people reacted to the words Jesus spoke on the last day of the Feast of Booths.
He is the Lord God who provides springs of the water of salvation.
He is the One who will pour out the Spirit on their descendants.
He is the promised Messiah for whom they had been waiting.
But His words caused a division in the crowd.
Some people in the crowd wanted to seize Him.
His words divided people.
Here in chapter 7 the crowd is divided on the question of His identity.
In chapter 9 (9:16), the Pharisees will be divided on whether He was from God.
In chapter 10 (10:19), the Jews will be divided by His words as the good shepherd.
The officers of the temple guard were employees of the ruling council.
They were transfixed by Jesus, and the words that He spoke.
How did Jesus speak?
And why was He able to speak in this way?
He taught the crowds as one having authority.
He had spoken on the ultimate issues of life.
He told the people that He was the ultimate authority in these matters.
He was the authority on the scriptures.
He spoke to a demon as one having authority over the demons.
Jesus had the authority to command him because He was the Holy One of God.
The words of Jesus had authority, power, and life because He is THE WORD.
He came from heaven, and testified about what He saw and heard- in heaven!
His words had power because He spoke the words of God, who sent Him.
His words were convicting because His Father gave him the Spirit abundantly.
His words convinced the Samaritans that He was the Savior of the world!
Jesus - and only Jesus - has the words of eternal life.
Why?
Jesus is the Holy One of God.
Never
has a man spoken the way this Man speaks.
