His sheep hear his voice

JOH 10:1-10

Chapter 10 is closely connected with chapter 9.

A shepherd and his sheep; the sheepfold with its door; thieves and robbers.

The shepherd and his sheep pictured the bond between the Lord and Israel.

Jeremiah and Ezekiel compared wicked rulers to shepherds who abused their flocks.

Who are the thieves and robbers?
The chief priests and Pharisees.

The false shepherds robbed the people of their freedom, money, and the truth.

Jesus came to lay down His life for His sheep.

What better proof could there be than the experience of the man born blind?

They put him out to get rid of him.
Jesus puts His sheep forth to lead them.

JOH 9:34-38

This man heard the voice of His true shepherd. He was deaf to the Pharisees.

He represents the remnant of believers who are in the LORD’s flock.

The first section is a discourse (teaching) of Jesus (verses 1-18),

followed by the reaction of His audience, the Jews (verses 19-21).

Jesus begins with a broad figure of speech (verses 1-6) based on sheep-herding.

the door of the sheep (verses 7-10), and the good shepherd of the sheep (verses 11-18).

Jesus is
the door of the sheep.
Jesus is
the good shepherd.

JOH 10:1-6

“truly, truly” - Jesus is following up on what he had said earlier to this same audience.

In verse 1, Jesus starts with the thief and robber - not the shepherd.

The Pharisees won’t understand. But he who was blind can now see (and hear)!

the door,
the thief and robber, and the shepherd.

The sheep follow him - for one reason, and one reason only:
HIS VOICE.

Jesus emphasizes that these sheep are
“his own” in verses 3 and 4.

The sheep know his voice ( verses 3 and 4).

No other man has his voice. (verse 5)

Sheep are smarter than most Christians!

2TI 4:2-4

It's vital to hear the voice of the Lord and to obey Him.

JOH 10:27-28

JOH 18:37

Who hears the voice of the Lord?
Everyone who is of the TRUTH.

EPH 1:13-14

JOH 17:17

The word of God is truth.

The Lord speaks to you when you listen to word of God.
