But the priests and Pharisees forcefully rejected Him as their Messiah.
Jesus went out from Jerusalem, heading east.
He left the place of stubborn unbelief and came to a place of informed belief.
It was a place called Bethany beyond the Jordan.
It must have been a bittersweet time for Jesus.
This place held fond memories for Him.
There was time to rest, and time to take stock.
JOH 1:23, 28-29
In every generation, the Lord has His little flock of people who believe in Him.
They saw Him up close and personal, and listened to His words.
They knew what John had said about Jesus.
John was well-loved and revered as a prophet by many in Israel.
John’s testimony about Jesus was 100% on target.
John said that Jesus was the LORD from Isaiah 40.
John said that he was not even worthy to loosen the straps of His sandals.
He declared that Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
And He testified that Jesus is the Son of God.
He said that Jesus was the Messiah - the Christ.
He said that Jesus came from heaven and is above all creation.
And he said that the Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand.
He said the Son has the authority to give eternal life to whoever believes in Him.
