“Are there not twelve hours in the day?”

JOH 11:7-10

Instead, He challenges them to get their act together.

They gave Him a reason not to go.

He gives them
the reason why
they had to go.

Walk during the daytime, not at night.

One time, the Pharisees and Sadducees asked Jesus for a sign.

MAT 16:1-4

In JOH 11:9-10, Jesus isn’t simply talking about common daylight and nightfall.

What does Jesus mean by the twelve hours of the day?

Is there a deeper meaning to “the light of this world”?

JOH 11:9-10

The first clue is found in the question that the disciples had asked Jesus.

The second clue is the word “in” in verse 10.
It is an invitation to dig deeper.

JOH 1:1-5

Once again, the prologue of John provides us with the essential truths.

True life - eternal life, God’s life- is in God’s Son. This life is the Light we find in the gospel of John.

The darkness could not overwhelm the light of the gospel of the glorious Christ (2CO 4:4).

JOH 1:9-13

This true Light came into this dark world when Jesus was born in Bethlehem.

MAT 4:16

He enlightens them about sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8).

They believed in Him and became children of God. God shared His life with them.

JOH 3:16-21

This is the gospel message. This light enlightens every man.

Not believing in Christ is evil. Such a man lives in fear of the judgment.

Believers welcome the light. The day will show that their deeds were produced by God.

EPH 2:8-10

The coming of the Light reveals the Light lovers - believers -
and the Light haters - unbelievers.

Unbelievers will face the judgment.

JOH 8:12

Jesus says in no uncertain terms that He IS the Light of the world.

Those who do not have the Light of life walk in the darkness.

JOH 9:4-5

Now Jesus speaks in terms of day and night.

There is a finite period of time reserved for Him to work the works of His Father.

The hour would come when the Light would no longer be shining in the world.

JOH 11:9-10

Here in chapter 11, Jesus speaks in terms of hours.

There are 12 hours in the day -the time He had to complete His mission on earth.

Each person must walk while they still have the Light of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

JOH 12:35-36

Those who walk at night walk in the darkness of unbelief.

You were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light (EPH 5:8)
