Excluded from the life of God

JOH 11:32-33

We are now examining what the Bible has to say about fallen man.

Adam was condemned to die physically, and the whole human race with him.

He had a depraved mind, and a wicked heart.

TIT 1:15-16

What God had created for man’s good became twisted and bent toward evil.

His need for companionship had degenerated into lust and loneliness.

His need for food morphed into gluttony and hunger.

Noble and productive work was supplanted by toil, greed, and laziness.

ROM 3:10-18

ROM 5:12

All sinned. But are we sinners because of our own personal sins?

ROM 5:18

We were condemned by God before we were even born!

ROM 5:19

We are not sinners because we sin.
We were born sinners.

PSA 58:3

The Bible calls this sinful propensity, this presence of sin in our bodies, “the flesh”.

ROM 5:12

Because Adam sinned, death spread to the entire human race.

But what kind (s) of death spread to all men from Adam?

Physical death certainly spread to all men from Adam.

EPH 2:1-3

Now this cannot be physical death.
These “dead” walk, and live, and indulge.

Death is the absence of life. What kind of life is absent here in Ephesians 2:1-3?

The “dead man” is in his trespasses and sins.

It is the death of one who is by nature a child of wrath.

Man’s very nature changed as a result of the fall.

This death involves a walk - a manner of living.

If you are walking according to the course of this world, what life is absent?

EPH 4:17-19

To be dead in trespasses and sins is to be excluded from the life of God.

It is the kind of life that a child of wrath cannot have.

JOH 3:36

To be dead in trespasses and sins is to lack eternal life.

EPH 2:1-3

This death is described as living in the lusts of the flesh.

ROM 8:5-9

If you are in the flesh, you cannot be in the Spirit.

The mind of the flesh is death.
The mind of the Spirit is life and peace.

JOH 3:6

If you are dead in trespasses and sins, you do not have the Spirit of Christ.

What is the death of EPH 2:1?

This death is the absence of eternal life and the absence of the Holy Spirit.

There is a second Adam:
the Last Adam.

1CO 15:20-22

There is one kind of man in Adam, and a completely different kind of man in Christ.

2CO 5:17
