“that you may become sons of Light”

JOH 12:30-36

1. The judgment of this world.

2. The casting out of the ruler of this world.

3. Jesus being lifted up from the earth.

4. Jesus drawing all men to Himself.

This is the third time in John’s gospel John that Jesus speaks of being lifted up.

JOH 3:13-15

First, He was lifted up in agony.
Then, He was lifted up in glory.

JOH 12:32

He died on the cross for all human beings: Gentile as well as Jew.

ACT 26:22-23

JOH 12:32

At the cross, the world system was judged.

At the cross, the ruler of this world was cast out.

The sacrifice of Christ on the cross was for all people, both Jew and Gentile.

The word of the cross has the power to attract every human being to Christ.

1CO 1:17-18

Each and every man and woman receives the invitation to believe in Christ.

JOH 12:34

This is how unbelievers act when they try to avoid the message of the gospel.

JOH 12:35-36

The Light is Christ.

The sons of Light refer to believers. They share the likeness of the Light.

ROM 8:29

They display characteristics of the Light.

EPH 5:8-9

Darkness is a symbol of judgment.

This includes the things worthy of judgment.

This also includes the penalty that results from judgment.

LUK 23:44-45

It was the time for judgment.

ROM 8:3-4

The Father judged
sin itself
in the flesh of His Son.

God has done His mighty work through the blood of His Son.

God removed every impediment that had stood between Him and the human race.

All are free to come to the Light, both Jew and Gentile.

JOH 8:12

But what about those who refuse to believe?

JOH 3:18-21

People remain in the darkness because they choose to do so.

2CO 4:3-4

Those who choose to remain in darkness are perishing.

But all they have to do is turn to the Lord and that veil will be taken away.

JOH 12:36

Now is the time of decision for all men and women.

Here on earth now, the light is the gospel of the glory of Christ (2CO 4:4).

HEB 9:27

Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved!
