Spiritual Gifts Part 43: Be satisfied with the sacrifice that completely satisfied God.

Point 2. The Giver of the Gifts: The Person and Work of God the Holy Spirit.

3. Here are the three works that God performs to provide salvation to individuals. [Common Grace, Call of God, Efficacious Grace].

1. Common Grace = the ministry of God the Holy Spirit in making the Gospel clear, understandable and compelling to the unbeliever.

2. The Call of God = the invitation of God the Father to believe in Christ.

3. Efficacious Grace = the work or ministry of the Holy Spirit in making the faith in Jesus Christ of the spiritually dead person effective for eternal salvation.

God the Holy Spirit applies the benefits of the work done by our Savior on the cross (on behalf of the whole human race) to the individual who believes in Jesus for salvation.

1. Common Grace
2. The Call of God
3. Efficacious Grace

1. Common Grace = the ministry of God the Holy Spirit in making the Gospel clear, understandable and compelling to the unbeliever.

There are three areas of evangelism in which the omnipotence of the Holy Spirit functions in common grace: sin, righteousness, and judgment.

Since Christ was our substitute and was judged for our sins on the cross, “sin” here refers specifically to one sin only, the refusal to believe in Jesus Christ.

This refers to imputed righteousness, the perfect righteousness of God which Christ is and which is credited to the believer at the moment of salvation.

Good News! Our sins have been judged, and satan, the one who kept us in the bondage of sin and death, has also been judged.

1. Satan has been judged.
2. Righteousness is available in and through Christ.
3. The condemning sin is failure to believe in Christ the Savior.

Perfect righteousness was here on earth for 33 years, in a human being, Christ.

Do not persist in your unbelief, but be believing.

Sin, righteousness, and judgment. Each must be considered in light of the other two.

The sin of unbelief is horrible because I do not have the righteousness I need and if I continue in this sin of unbelief I will face the judgment.

JOH 3:18
“ He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

If I believe, God imputes His perfect righteousness to me, and I have passed out of death into life, forever safe from the judgment associated with the ruler of this world.

Judgment
Righteousness
Sin

Judgment means you are in a position to be saved.

Righteousness means that the Savior has come - He’s Jesus Christ the Righteous. You can be declared perfectly righteous.

Sin means the sin of unbelief is the only thing between you and eternal life.

ACT 16:31 They said, " Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."

He has accomplished the redemption concerning our sins.
He has accomplished the expiation of the penalty and guilt of our sins.

He has accomplished the propitiation toward the righteousness and justice of God.
He has accomplished the reconciliation of sinners.

First, He makes the Gospel clear to us. This is common grace.
TIT 2:11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,

Then He makes our faith in Christ effective, giving our faith life, as it were.

This is efficacious grace.

1CO 1:18
For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

In efficacious grace, God the Holy Spirit applies the work of Christ on the cross to individual believers.

Soteriology is the study of salvation, which is the work of the Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ.

“the blood of Christ” is an analogy to represent the substitutionary spiritual death of Christ.

Salvation had to:

  • Pay the price for sin
  • Cancel the penalty of sin
  • Satisfy the justice of God
  • End the war that man started against God

When God gave His Son Jesus Christ, He gave Him to the entire world.

All of the work of Christ that involves getting rid of negatives was done on behalf of all people in the world.

Then there is additional work where God provides positive things for believers.

Grace is free, limitless, and unmerited blessing to helpless, undeserving sinners from the loving God whose justice is completely satisfied by the Person and Work of His Son the Lord Jesus Christ.

The blood of Christ - His substitutionary spiritual death on the cross - provided redemption, expiation, propitiation, and reconciliation for every man.

The only question that remains is whether a man is satisfied with the sacrifice that completely satisfies God.
