God causes all things to work together for good to those who love Him.

JOH 18:15-17

Verses 12-27 record the arrest of Jesus, followed by His trials before the religious leaders:

the high priests Annas and Caiaphas. Interspersed between the trials are the three denials of Peter.

Verses 12-14:
Jesus is arrested and brought before Annas.

Verses 15-18:
Peter’s first denial.

Verses 19-24:
Jesus is interrogated by Annas and sent to Caiaphas.

Verses 25-27:
Peter’s second and third denials.

All four gospels record the three times that Peter denied Jesus.

ROM 8:28

We are going to see how Peter’s life illustrates what ROM 8:28 says.

We begin with Peter in Galilee. He’s fishing. It was his occupation.

LUK 5:1-11

Peter knew who he was. He knew that he fell short of the glory of God.

He was the kind of man that we are - or were.

Peter turned out to be one of Jesus’s closest companions.

LUK 8:49-54

Peter would say things without realizing what he was saying.

MAT 16:21-23

He had zeal, and he had courage.

MAT 14:24-29

But then his faith would fail him.

MAT 14:30

But the LORD was always there to rescue him when he fell.

MAT 14:31-33

He was boastful at times. But he would come to regret his boastful words.

MAT 26:33-35

His worst failures happened on the night before Jesus died on the cross.

He fell asleep when Jesus needed him the most.

MAT 26:39-41

But the worst failure of all was denying Jesus . Not once, but three times.

Jesus knew he would do it.

Jesus told Peter he would do it.

LUK 22:31-34

And Peter did it.

LUK 22:54-62

Peter was despondent.
He was devastated.

But nothing can stop His Father from working all things together for good for those who love Him.

The LORD appeared in His glorious resurrected body -

- and restored Peter. Three times.

JOH 21:15-17

He gave this flawed man, the awesome task of shepherding His fledgling church.

He had failed the Lord, but the Lord never failed him.

MAT 28:19-20

Peter had become a living witness to the restorative power of the Lord.

The Lord really did work all things together for good in his life.
