John is referring here to the entire book of the gospel of John.
The signs include Jesus’s words as well as His works.
In JOH 2:1-12, Jesus turned the water into wine.
In JOH 4:46-54, Jesus healed the royal official’s son.
In JOH 5:1-24, Jesus healed a man who had been ill - paralyzed - for 38 years.
In JOH 6:1-14, Jesus feed the 5,000 with 5 barley loaves of bread and 2 fish.
In JOH 6:15-40, Jesus walked on water.
In JOH 9:1-41, Jesus gave sight to a man who was born blind.
In JOH 11:1-45, Jesus raised Lazarus rom the dead.
Many did believe in Christ because of these miracles.
But many witnessed the miracles yet did not believe.
The words of Christ alone caused many to believe.
Take for example the Samaritan woman. Jesus didn’t perform a miracle for her.
She believed in Jesus as the Messiah on the basis of the words He spoke to her.
JOH 4:13-14, 25-30
And many Samaritans from that city believed in Him, not because of a miracle -
but because of the words which the woman and Jesus spoke to them.
Jesus proclaimed He was God and the Savior in His “I am” statements.
Martha believed that Jesus is the Christ , the Son of God, and did so -
BEFORE He brought her brother back from the dead.
that you may believe
that Jesus is the Christ
That you may believe that Jesus is
the Son of God
John the Baptist bore witness that Jesus is the Son of God .
So did Nathanael:
And Jesus testified that He is
the Son of God.
And that believing you may have life in His name.
Life!
Based on the message of truth that we heard spoken by a believer in Christ.
Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God?
Do you believe that He is your Savior?
Do not persist in deadly unbelief but BELIEVE!!!
