Class Outline:
God promised a just judgment to Judah.
“They” in Micah 5:1 refers to Babylon, who God would use to judge Israel.
The “judge” of Israel that would be struck on the cheek is Zedekiah, who was king when Nebuchadnezzar oppressed the Israelites.
This judgment came because the people of Israel were wayward at the time.
In the same way that God promised a just judgment, he promised a Just Ruler to come. That Ruler is none other than Jesus Christ.
That ruler, Micah 5:2 says, would come out of Bethlehem Ephratah, a town in Judah.
His time in Nazareth, which was a village north of Judah, should have been another clue to the Israelites, but unfortunately, they held a very low opinion of the place.
Not only would this Ruler come from Judah, Micah 5:2 says, but that same Ruler would come from the days of eternity.
We’ve seen that the Israelites during Jesus’ time misunderstood his earthly origin. They misunderstood his heavenly origin, too.
The vast majority of Israelites ignored the scriptures both then, and sadly even now.
Praise God that we can recognize His Son as the coming ruler of Israel and his many other roles. He’s the Savior of Israel — and us, too.
