2 Corinthians 11:10-15

Title: True, or false?

Paul’s boasting in this case

(2CO 11:10-12) is tied to his defense of his status as a true apostle. The people have placed Paul in a position where he must distinguish himself from false apostles.

Why does Paul keep seeking to distinguish the real apostles from the false ones? He had an obligation to do so, and he wasn’t the only apostle who did:

3JO 1:1-10

The false apostles disguise themselves as apostles of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13). What are the signs of a true apostle?

1) All of them saw the risen Christ.

ACT 1:21-26; 1CO 15:3-9

2) All received the gospel directly from Jesus Christ.

MAT 16:13-20

Paul did not receive the gospel from a man: GAL 1:11-20

3) All but Mattias received a direct call from Jesus Christ: LUK 6:12-19

(cf. MAR 3:16-19)

The Lord confirmed His apostles with miracles, signs, and wonders:

ACT 5:9-16, ACT 8:9-13;

2CO 12:10-13

Two apostles used their power from God to raise a man, but not from the dead: ACT 3:3-10

Paul and all other apostles had a certain fidelity to the truth of the gospel: JUD 1:1-4

Remember that the other apostles approved of Paul, too: GAL 2:2-10

Satan masquerades as an angel of light (2CO 11:14) and his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness.

Consider the darkness:

ISA 8:16-22

What’s the end for Satan’s servants (false apostles)? What’s the end that will be according to their deeds,

per 2CO 11:15?
