Spiritual Gifts Part 318:

Diet and exercise

The Doctrine of Spiritual Gifts

Point 4.
Developing the capacity you need to function effectively in your spiritual gift.

What is discernment?

Why do we need to have discernment?

How do I get spiritual discernment?

The filling of the Spirit and doctrine in the soul are critical to exercising correct discernment.

God does not keep His will a secret.
He has revealed it!

Yet people are always asking,
“What is God’s will for my life?”

All discernment is performed by the Holy Spirit, using the tools of Bible doctrine already tested and found in the soul, under the exercise of one’s priesthood.

HEB 5:14
But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.

“solid food” means advanced doctrine.

“mature” means the spiritually mature believer.

Practice = hexis
a repeated activity - 'practice, doing again and again, doing repeatedly.'

practice” refers to persistently perceiving, metabolizing and especially applying bible doctrine.

“Senses” =
the capacities for spiritual apprehension.

“trained” = Greek
gumnazo

We get our English word gymnasium from this Greek word.

gumnazo means “to exercise naked”.

Discerning the Body correctly.

dia/krisi$
diakrisis;
a judicial estimation.
The ability to evaluate and judge. A noun.

This word has a verb form as well.
diakri/nw
diakrino

1CO 11:29
For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge [diakrino = discern] the body rightly.

The Lord wants your heart to be enlightened as to the true meaning and nature of Christ as expressed in His Body the Church!

You were elected as a member of the TEAM. The church is the vessel that carries the glory of Christ to a dark universe. JOH 17:20-23; the book of Ephesians!

You are never going to find spiritual enlargement just as an isolated, separate individual, but only in relation with other believers.

And the proof of it is the fact that it is not always easy for Christians to live together for very long!

God’s great aim is to put Christ into things… …and the devil’s great aim is to keep Christ out of things!!!

1CO 11:29
For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge [diakrino = discern] the body rightly.

The context of 1 Cor 11:29 and the command to discern the body correctly has to do with divisions and factions in the Body.
