The Doctrine of Spiritual Gifts
Developing the capacity you need to function effectively in your spiritual gift.
Idolatry is man’s placing a visible object of worship before his eyes to protect him from God, thus silencing his conscience that he may indulge his lusts. [William Newell ]
You become like what you worship!
As you continue to worship the one true living God, you become more and more like Christ in His humanity; 2CO 3:18.
The first thing you need to do is to FLEE! 1CO 10:14
Idolatry is a deed of the flesh, and the solution to being trapped in fleshly deeds is to walk by means of the Spirit, GAL 5:16!
The enduring solution to idolatry is humility, repentance, and renewal; COL 3:1-11.
Concentrate on the doctrines surrounding your salvation and your great hope, the return of our Lord Jesus Christ in the air, 1TH 1:9-10.
Little children, guard yourselves from idols.
How do I get spiritual discernment?
All discernment is performed by the Holy Spirit, using the tools of Bible doctrine already tested and found in the soul, under the exercise of one’s priesthood.
But solid food [advanced doctrine] is for the [spiritually] mature, who because of practice [learning and obeying God’s word again and again]…
…have their senses trained [have vigorously exercised their souls and human spirits by applying God’s word under the guidance of the Holy Spirit] …
…to discern good and evil [resulting in discernment both of the genuine and the counterfeit].
