Spiritual Gifts Part 347:

The gold standard for discernment

The Doctrine of Spiritual Gifts

Point 4.
Developing the capacity you need to function effectively in your spiritual gift.

What is discernment?

Why do I need discernment?

How do I get discernment?

How do I use spiritual discernment?

All discernment is performed by the Holy Spirit, using the tools of Bible doctrine already tested and found in the soul, under the exercise of one’s priesthood.

The first discernment skill is to have the Spirit deploy the word of God to consistently and reliably read the situation in our soul.

First things first

  1. Our own thinking
  2. Teachings
  3. Life decisions
  4. People
  5. Angels

A. The order in which we gain capacity over time as a result of spiritual growth.

B. The checklist for our daily battles.

The first letter of John is in large part a letter concerning discernment: learning how to see clearly.

1JO 5:13 states the purpose of the letter.

“That you may know” is calling for discernment.

There are two Greek words translated “know” in 1 John, and they appear a total of 42 times!

First things first

  1. the child of God
  2. the Word of God
  3. the Will of God
  4. the People of God
  5. the Enemies of God
