The Activity of the Holy Spirit in the lives of Church Age believers, part 15.

To enable us to SEE who Jesus IS…
And then to embolden us to TESTIFY about who Jesus is.

The role that the Holy Spirit played during the First Advent of Jesus is duplicated with the Church.

So the Holy Spirit identifies Jesus to church age believers, and makes witnesses.

To enable us to SEE who Jesus IS…
And then to embolden us to TESTIFY about who Jesus is.

The Holy Spirit will glorify the Lord Jesus Christ by taking of Christ’s and disclosing Christ to us.

How does the Holy Spirit identify Jesus now?

  • Directly
  • Through the written Word
  • Through the brethren

Directly - the indwelling Christ
The word - the mind of Christ
The brethren - the body of Christ

The Holy Spirit has one all-encompassing concern: He is focused with all His capacity upon the Lord Jesus, to make Him glorious, and that in church age believers.

We are being transformed into the image and likeness of Christ as we behold the glory of the Lord in the mirror of the word of God, 2CO 3:17-18.

The Spirit takes of Christ’s and discloses it to us.

Where sin is, death is.

So God has done EVERYTHING HE CAN
to rescue His children from SIN.

Now God wants to rescue us from sin in our every day lives.

God has gone to the lengths of PUTTING HIMSELF IN US to prevent us from drinking the poison.

What is the Holy Spirit’s work when it comes to sin in the life of the church age believer?

The whole purpose and goal behind that work is to GET RID OF IT.
To have it stop.
To free the child of God from sin.

We are called as children of God indwelt by the Spirit to seek out the ultimate MEANING behind the words of scripture.

We can know the deep things of God because the Spirit knows them and is charged with sharing all things He knows with us.

God’s heartbeat is to RESCUE US from the deadly effects of sin.

His way is (1) to give us the power to stop sinning in a certain area, then (2) to renew our minds with His truth, and then…

…and then (3)to give us the power and opportunity to start living the new life by putting on the New Man, who is Christ.

If you read 1 John it is unmistakable that declaring our sins is tied into powerful meaning of Christ’s work on the cross.

Tied into the blood of Jesus cleansing us from all sin.

Tied into Jesus at the right hand of the Father as the propitiation, the satisfaction for our sins, and His active advocacy there on our behalf.

Tied into the faithfulness and righteousness of God the Father who forgives sins and cleanses from all unrighteousness on the basis of the blood of Jesus and Jesus as the propitiation for the sins of the world.

This is all fundamental, this is justification truth, this is basic truth that the new believer in Christ needs to learn about and master and make part of who he or she is.

God has given us all this - the blood, the propitiation, the Advocate at His right hand - for the ultimate purpose of our COMPLETE RESCUE FROM SIN so we can live this new life in union with the resurrected Christ.

So the underlying meaning behind confessing our sins is to BE HONEST AND STRAIGHTFORWARD about the fact that we are sinning in a certain area FOR THE PURPOSE OF BEING FREED from our bondage of sinning.

So of course we are going to go to God with our sins and get the whole thing out in the open and on the table.

But we can only do that WITH THE SPIRIT and BY THE SPIRIT!!!
