Living with Him.

He who died has been placed forever in the clear apart from sin.

We, through our death with Christ on the cross, have forever passed beyond the sphere where our former relationship to sin existed.

We stand in Christ as He is toward sin.

Not only were our sins put away by the blood of Christ…

Our connection with Adam was ended, our old man was crucified, and we died to sin.

God has ALREADY qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light!

The first half of Romans 6, verses 1-14, is one big answer to one big question.

ROM 6:1
Are we to
continue in sin so that grace may increase?

Verse 2 provides the general answer.
How shall we who died to sin still live in it?

Our Lord’s death and resurrection ended the reign of sin for all believers.

In verses 3 to 11,
Paul gives a more detailed answer.

In verses 12, 13, and 14, he makes a
general appeal to us in light of all this.

The more detailed answer centers on the fact that we are united with Christ in His death and resurrection.

In verses 6 and 7,
Paul extracts the meaning and implications of the death of Christ.

Starting in verse 8, he turns his focus to the resurrection of Christ and the implications of that.

Paul first makes a general statement and then gives a more detailed explanation .

Verses 6 and 7 further explain the FIRST HALF of verse 5.

Verses 8, 9, and 10 take up the SECOND HALF of verse 5.

Verses 6 & 7 are negative, in the sense of something negative being taken out of the way.

verses 8-10 are POSITIVE!

RESURRECTION is POSITIVE!!!

As wonderful as it is to learn that we have been released from the realm of sin, …

… it is even MORE wonderful to now learn that we have been transported to the realm of the risen Christ!

“believe” here means “We are well aware of the fact!”

Since we really are JOINED to Him,

EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO HIM
-
HAPPENS TO US!

It’s future from the standpoint of our having been planted together with Him in His death.

The focus here in chapter 6 is what is true about us NOW!

We are going on to the confident expectation of a blessed life in Christ!

Since we shared the death of Christ,

now we shall from that point forward always share His life.

We are RIGHT NOW seated together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

Is Jesus still on the cross?
Then neither are you.

Did Jesus die to sin, to the law, to death?
So did you.

Is Jesus seated at the Right Hand of the Father?
So are you.

That seal is the Holy Spirit Himself!
